This new program allows homebound patrons to have library materials delivered to and picked up from their homes on a weekly basis. Funding from the Leelanau County Commission on Aging helps make this service available.
Home delivery is available to any resident of Empire, Glen Arbor or Kasson Township that is unable to travel to the library due to health limitations or other challenges:
- Long-term illness, disability or recovery
- Non-driver status: no driver's license, winter driving limitations
- Nursing home or assisted living resident
This outreach service is intended primarily for seniors. However, other people with health challenges or other disabilities may be eligible as funding allows.
All collections from the library may be borrowed through this program. Materials may be borrowed for the following loan periods.
- Books, Recorded books, music: 3 weeks
- Magazines: 2 weeks
- Movies: 1 week. (a rental fee of $1 is charged for feature films on DVD)
All items may be renewed one time, with the exception of movie rentals. No late fines will be charged, but fees for lost or damaged materials will be billed according to our policies.
Patrons may request specific titles – either by phone or via our online catalog – or have staff select materials based on their preferences (see application below). Deliveries will be made once per week. Delivery personnel will call ahead of time to make sure that clients are home at the scheduled time.
