Summer Reading Program 2025
Many thanks to the hundreds of kids, parents, and grandparents that attended our summer family programs. We also appreciate the musicians, artists, authors, farmers and storytellers that shared their talents each Thursday morning. Young readers still have time to complete our Summer Reading Challenge and earn special prizes. Reading logs are available at the library. Please note that reading logs must be submitted by Saturday, August 30. Now, we’re looking ahead to another season of Stories & More for Preschoolers, beginning Friday, September 12 at 11:00 am.

Nature Sketching & Journaling: September 20, 10:00 am
Join the Sleeping Bear Nature Group for their monthly excursion, lead by Penny Krebiehl. Meet at the library first for some discussion and practice, then depart to observe local flora and fauna. Be sure to pack pencils/pens, paper or drawing book/journal, water bottle, snacks/lunch, and dress appropriately for the weather with comfy walking shoes, and your curiosity. Registration is not mandatory, but is helpful in the event of schedule changes or inclement weather.
Julie Swanson / North of Tomboy: September 20, 1:00 pm
Author Julie Swanson will discuss her new middle-grade novel, North of Tomboy. Inspired by the author’s own experience growing up in Leelanau County, the story follows fourth grader Jess Jezowski, who’s always felt more like a boy than a girl. Though set in the 1970’s, the thoughtful narrative explores issues of self-identity that will resonate today. Copies of the book will be available for sale, courtesy of the Cottage Book Shop.
